It is commonly known that Eggfood plays a very important role in the diet of captive birds and the Java Sparrow is no exception.

Eggfood is loaded with protein, vitamins and essential amino acids that are extremely important in the development of newly hatched chicks all the way through to when they are fully grown adults birds.

I have tried several brands of commercially produced eggfood and have found that my birds will take all variations. The eggfood pictured left is E.M.P, this is a dry eggfood and readily taken by my Java's. I occasionally switch brands and use the likes of Sluis, Orlux, Cede or Oke.

As protein plays a key part in the development of young birds, I add Japanese Millet to each serving of Eggfood, the ratio is 50/50.

As I mentioned on my Seed page Japanese Millet is the richest in protein of all the millet family and is devoured by Java Sparrows whether breeding or not.

Pictured above is E.M.P Eggfood as it looks from the supplier. Move your cursor over the picture to see what the mix looks like after the Japanese Millet is added.
